In 2021, the transport industry was the second largest CO2 emitter worldwide, accounting for more than 20% of total global emissions. In an area in which metals account for between 30% and 60% of the carbon footprint generated during the manufacture of an automobile, there is a pressing necessity to use materials that reduce the CO2 impact during the life cycle of vehicles, such as the solutions provided by Global Composites.

This is the first solution on the market that has the major advantage of allowing the composites manufactured through this system to be degraded by reactor treatment and by means of temperature, assisted by the degrading agent, CleaVER, also provided by Global Composites and Swancor.

CleaVER and its importance for a more sustainable future.

During the recycling process of these resins, CleaVER is a key actor as it breaks the polymeric chain of the composite, degrades and dissolves it. This way, the resulting products, a liquid oligomer and the fibers, can be separated for later reuse.

The use of recyclable, lighter and more durable resins in the manufacture of electric vehicles has multiple benefits:

  • Reduces dependence on metals in the development of bodies and part of the chassis.
  •  Its combination with natural fibers for the creation of the composites reduces dependence on finite natural resources.
  • It reduces the carbon footprint to a minimum during production (0.12 compared to 1.09 for a thermosetting resin).
  • Its ability to be 100% recyclable promotes the circular economy.
