The Cartagena boat, winner of 2019 in ORC 2, prevails this year in the ORC 3 category, after some high-level regattas in the waters of Palma in the SM El Rey Cup
Skippered by José Coello, “El Carmen-Elite Sails” of the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena, has already been proclaimed champion of the 39th SM El Rey Cup, which was played in the bay of Palma. In this way, it revalidates the title obtained in 2019, which was the last year of competition disputed.
After 6 days of regattas, where it was possible to verify absolute equality between the different competitors, the Cartagena finally proved to be the best in the most decisive days. Consequent brilliant results in the sleeves of the final phase: (2-2-1-5-2-2), which distanced them from the next classified, the Italian ‘Scugnizza’ and the Alicante ‘Medilevel’.
“El Carmen”, who had just won the SM La Reina de Valencia trophy, managed to demonstrate once again its reliability in this type of competition, thanks to a crew that grows in the most difficult moments. It could be observed in the fifth test that they began to take off to second place, and in the sixth, they finally achieved the desired victory, which was the starting point until they became leaders.
After the victory, José Coello pointed out that “we have been adjusting the boat in the last two years to be more competitive in this class, but the others have been unexpectedly fast. If we had not been very focused, we would not have succeeded. The key has been that the crew has worked as usual, overcoming if things did not go as expected. It is the sixth time that we have come with this boat to the Copa SM El Rey and we have never seen it so close. We already won the previous one, but this was the time that it cost us the most. You couldn’t breathe, if you lost your mind for a moment they ran over you », commented the boss.
From Global Composites we could not be more proud of this boat that never ceases to amaze us in each competition, demonstrating the value of effort and perseverance, with which we empathize and admire notably. Congratulations to the patron José Coello, and each and every one of the members that make up this impressive team.
Courage Pako, we are counting on you and we are waiting for you soon.
